The highly anticipated sequel to Malaysia’s first mafia family comedy airs on December 3, 2020 across Viu’s 16 markets
PCCW (SEHK:0008) – KUALA LUMPUR, DECEMBER 3, 2020 – Viu, a leading pan-regional OTT video streaming service operated by Viu International Limited, is bringing back Malaysia’s first mafia family comedy Keluarga Baha Don for a second season with a fresh twist! The award-winning Viu Original series amassed a legion of loyal fans when it debuted in July 2019 and has been celebrated for its relatable pan-Malaysian characters and unique brand of comedy.
Produced by Anomalous Films, Keluarga Baha Don revolves around a quirky and uniquely dysfunctional Malaysian family doing business in the contrasting worlds of culinary finery and organized crime. Season 2 of the series will follow on from the cliffhanger of the last episode where Jo (Remy Ishak) discovers that his father Baha Don (Othman Hafsham) may still be alive. The long-awaited sequel will see the original star-studded cast, including Jihan Muse, Mark Adam, Khir Rahman, Susan Lankester, Sharifah Aleysha, Melissa Campbell and many others, reprising their roles. The latest season will see the cast lineup expanded to include Tony Eusoff, Amy Mastura, Azman Hassan and Marsha Milan, to name a few.
Ms. Sahana Kamath, Head of Original Production for Viu Malaysia and Indonesia, said, ““While it was necessary to take a pause on production earlier this year along with the rest of the industry, we doubled down on script development to bolster our upcoming slate of original series. Viu sees the value and demand from Malaysians for more high quality, locally produced original productions, and today we are bringing back Malaysia’s very first Mafia comedy Keluarga Baha Don for a second season of comedic antics. Keluarga Baha Don is a comedy unlike any other and a perfect example of the highly differentiated original content we have become known for.”
Viu Malaysia continues to push the boundaries of the local entertainment industry by tapping into fresh new genres and formats that are strongly localized while providing the opportunity for homegrown talent to showcase their skills on a world stage. Viu launched its first Malaysian production in 2018 and has released nine Viu Original productions in total, with several picking up awards at local and regional levels. Keluarga Baha Don won Best Comedy Programme at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2019. Jihan Muse also took home an Asian Academy Creative Award for Best Comedy Performance for her role as Kesuma in the series. Viu won Best TV Format Adaptation (Scripted) in Asia for Pretty Little Liars at the inaugural ContentAsia Awards. Five Viu Original series together received a total of 14 nominations.
