The Delegation of the European Union in Malaysia together with the Embassy of Italy, celebrated the launch of European Union Film Festival 2014 yesterday with an European themed cocktails and a preview screening of romance drama movie “The Best Offer” in GSC Pavilion KL.
Host for the evening was H.E. Luc Vandebon, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of EU to Malaysia and H.E. Mario Sammartino, Ambassador of Italy to Malaysia. Joining them was guests, Ms Koh Mei Lee (Chief Executive Officer, GSC), H.E. Nicolai Ruge (Ambassador of Denmark), H.E. Harry Molenaar (Ambassador of The Netherlands), H.E. Christophe Penot (Ambassador of France), Mr. Jean Pierre Dumont (Alliance Francaise Kuala Lumpur) and Mr. Jean Wasser (Alliance Francaise Kuala Lumpur).
“2014 marks the 15th EU Film Festival in Malaysia, and GSC has been the Film Festival’s partner and official venue provider for 11 consecutive years. These selected movies are showcased exclusively in participating GSC locations in Klang Valley, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and for the first time this year – in GSC CityOne Megamall, Kuching”, said Miss Koh Mei Lee in her welcome address during the EUFF launch.
H.E. Luc Vandebon said, “The EUFF has grown over the years to become the biggest international film festival in the country. The films showcased are not only a testament to European creativity, they also strongly represent diversity – an ideal that both the EU and Malaysia values.”
H.E. Mario Sammartino shared, “This year Italy is proud to present – through GSC Movies – “The Best Offer’’, the latest of well-known director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore. Tornatore is also the director of the famous and unforgettable movie “Cinema Paradiso’’ that obtained worldwide recognition and won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.”
The eclectic line-up at this year’s EUFF features a total of twenty-one (21) European titles from comedy, romance, drama to animation and documentaries. Highlights include “The Best Offer” (Italy), “The Broken Circle Breakdown” (Belgium), “The Hunt” (Denmark), “A Royal Affair” (Denmark) and “Niko 2 – Little Brother, Big Trouble”, the only animated movie of this edition of the festival.
Tickets for the EUFF will be priced at RM7, except for “The Best Offer” (Italy), which will be priced at prevailing ticket pricing, while “Snow White” (Spain) and “Exit Through the Gift Shop” (UK) will be screened for free
